‘Thirty Three Views, Plus Two’
Thirty-five artists. Five spaces on Payne Avenue in St. Paul. It’s a lot to keep track of. Co-curators Chris Larson, co-founder of the brand-new Second Shift Studio Space, and artist Maria Cristina Tavera are into these sort of challenges. “33 Views” — part of this weekend’s St. Paul Art Crawl — highlights work by female-identifying and gender-nonconforming artists in the Twin Cities, including Julie Buffalohead, Mara Duvra, Tia Simone-Gardner, Nooshin Hakim Javadi, Pao Houa Her and Essma Imady, among others. The show will be installed at Second Shift (1128 Payne Av.); in the old Swedish Bank Building (965 Payne); in the basement of a vacant furniture building next door, and at Jon Oulman’s future wine cafe and gallery at 1106-08 Payne. The exhibit is a way to build excitement about Second Shift, a residency program offering free studio space to female and gender-nonconforming artists. (Opening reception 7-10 p.m. Sat. Regular hours 6-10 p.m. Fri., noon-10 p.m. Sat., noon-5 p.m. Sun. Free. SecondShiftStudioSpace.org)
